Noteworthy Album Release Confirms Hip Hop is Not Dead
Today's Hip Hop has become a multi money making venture; a far cry from the genre that Afrika Bambaataa first imagined when first using the term hip hop to describe the subculture that hip hop music belongs to. Over time hip hop has lost its 'soulful' content and now meaningless catchy hooks and ill-mannered lyrics seem to dominate the mainstream labels artists. What we have today is not really hip hop. When hip hop releases developed into something that was decided on in corporate boardrooms, the 'soul' or knowledge contained in hip hop rhymes went away, or though it seems.

Hip Hop Debate: Why NYOIL is Right about Nas by Jasiri X
This is a debate over a word that has been connected to the murder, lynching, rape and torture of black people all over the world. This is about our ancestors, us and our babies many of whom don't know the blood stained history of the "N-Word". I like many Hip Hop fans was willing to give Nas the benefit of the doubt before making a judgment about his album Nigger. And I like many Hip Hop fans noticed a distinct similarity in the hook of "Be a Nigger Too" to the NYOIL song "What up my Wigger Wigga". But that is where the similarities ended. While NYOIL's song sought to discourage people from using derogatory language to describe themselves, the Nas song was a free pass for every one of every race to not only use the word Nigger but to "Be a Nigger".

Hip Hop Documentary: Party, Sex, Drugs & Crime
Party, Sex, Drugs and Crime have somehow always been associated with the music industry and more recently with urban hip hop and rap music industry. Only a few actually knows what those combining elements of that lifestyle actually entails. To be a part of those rarely publicized behind the scenes moments of the no sleep, hardworking, fast paced, money making, high spending, fun loving thrill seeking lifestyle that most popular rappers experience everyday has always been a subject of great interest to all hip hop fans of rap music. Most people fail to understand and appreciate the fact that in order to reach the top, most of our favorite hip hop rappers has had to struggle, take risks and make sacrifices in order to make their dreams of being in the hip hop / rap music industry a reality.

Taking Hip Hop Back to the Golden Era of Rap - Planet Asia
Hip hop culture progresses into its fourth decade, and several hip hop artists long for the Golden Era of rap. Rappers of this time (the mid and late 1980s) strove to be the best lyricist and typically accented their wardrobes by wearing hefty gold chains, as evidenced by such MCs as Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick. Consider Planet Asia a torchbearer for the rebirth of the Golden Era.

Hip Hop Veteran Kemo the Blaxican to Drop: 'Not So Rich & Famous'
The hard hitting hip hop beat is what grabs you first. Then you hear the smooth-yet powerful baritone vocals attack with a distinctive tone. You recognize the voice as it commands attention with provocative lyrics over the flavorful track. The hip hop MC shifts the rhyme from English to Spanish and then back to English again, with such a seamless transition that you barely even notice the language switch. Your head was bobbing the whole way through - it didn't even matter that some of you couldn't understand the Spanish parts. Then it hits you, you're sure of it. The voice and trademark rhyme flow belong to none other than "The Blaxican" - Kemo, former member of Latin hip hop pioneers Delinquent Habits.

Women Hold Up More Than Half the Sky Within Hip Hop
What makes this current wave of energy so inspiring is that many of these women are doing more then just rapping. They are organizing and attaching their work and collective efforts to community groups. That includes women doing their own artist show cases, starting their own production and management companies, setting up their own record labels and as is the case in Boston with Girls Radio or in Seattle with producer B-Girl Chillz 'B-Girl Radio' setting up their own online radio stations. DJ Cutler Drops Hip Hop Worth Listening To
I usually do not like mix tapes because they have lost their edge, at least to me, and they lack creativity. DJ Cutler has shown his 'feel' for his art and for hip hop on Scion CD Sampler v.16. If you like the 'scratch' and music that you can 'feel', this is one project that you need to check out.

Hip Hop Pioneer Monie Love Speaks with Tony Muhammad
This interview was very timely as it came two weeks after Clear Channel 100.3 and Monie had a "falling out." It is speculated throughout the industry that this was actually an act of termination in response to an on-air argument Monie had with Young Jeezy just weeks prior. It is believed that the incident ruined some "back door" payola (pay to play) agreement between Jeezy's label or management and the radio station. With the overall message of Nas' new album sparking endless debates among Hip Hoppers everywhere, it found itself in a big way at the radio station that morning. What was supposed to be a discussion promoting Jeezy's new album turned into a debate about whether or not "HIP HOP IS DEAD" and whether or not Nas truly has "street credibility." Based on the manner in which Jeezy interacted with Monie on the air, you could tell that he did not have a good idea who she was. Throughout the interview, Jeezy continuously disrespected her; first by questioning her background (being from England) in relation to Hip Hop and second by constantly interrupting her when she was about to respond to his statements. After Monie lashed out at Jeezy by explaining why she felt that "HIP HOP IS DEAD," Jeezy walked out of the station (Peep the discussion on Odeo.com for yourselves).

Kenya Hip Hop MC Kah Speaks with Davey D
No Bullshit! No Compromise! are two phrases that accurately describe MC Kah who is one of the primary rappers in the 24 man supercrew called Ukoo Flani Mau Mau. Sharp on his politics as he is on the mic, Kah gives an insightful breakdown as to how Kenyan artists strive to keep a strong connection to the spirit and legacy of their Mau Mau freedom fighter grandfathers and grandmothers who went into the forest 50 years ago to organize and overthrow British colonizers.

Four critically acclaimed albums, countless performances around the globe, gracing the covers of a myriad of publications and outside production work including tracks for hip hop and rap groups such as the Beastie Boys, Linkin Park, Swollen Members, Defari, Planet Asia and co- production on Kanye West's Grammy award winning album College Dropout, Evidence gives his fans a brilliant taste of his own individual talent on his debut solo album The Weatherman LP.

DJ Superstar Jay Re-Examines Hip Hop Fundamentals
Before the acknowledgement of hip hop and rap by commercial radio and television stations, turntablelists would grab a stack of TDK's and supply the streets with a much needed hip hop fix. When hip hop legends like Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, and Flash introduced mixtapes to a newly blossoming hip hop scene in the 70's, New York party DJ's used them as a tool to exhibit their skills to the masses. Many of us, like the late hip hop / rap luminary Notorious B.I.G., often "let our tape rock 'til they popped." So now in the age of downloading, pro tools and echo chambers it seems like anyone can produce mixtapes (and not necessarily hot ones). This leaves many of us wondering "Have New York DJ's have lost their touch?"

"I'd always be late for class from everybody trying to get me to freestyle on campus - eventually I got the nickname white rabbit like from 'Alice In Wonderland', since I was always in a rush to class wearing my white hijab," Robbi explains.

South Bay Hip Hop via Rapper Don Cutec

An Open Letter to Hip Hop
In closing Imm gonna say this and it may be sobering for some... It's what my pops told me after I got caught fuccing up and then went home and tried to kiss up to him so I wouldn't get in trouble. He then punished me for 3 weeks not for the fucc up, but for me trying to kiss his ass instead of owning up to my mistakes. This is about to happen to all of us...

Harlem hip-hop MC Tommy Danger - 'The Now and Laterman', will add to his rap flavors as he drops Volume 7 the 'Mystery Flavor' this December. The production is crazy. 17 straight hits with production from Rockwilder, 45 king, Mizchif, DJ Left, Heat of the City UK and DJ Nice. Everyone calls us Hard Body in the streets because of our Hustle skills, so that's what we named the opening track, basically biting heads off. There is nothing smooth about it. We gave the people what they have been asking for. We have created our niche in flipping different styles, and that's our formula in making hits. This time around we have crafted this one with an album sound and not the typical mix tape industry beats that we have used in the past."

Rap Artist Ohene: Respected Hip-Hop MC
Hip-hop rap artist Ohene (pronounced O-hen-e) brings to the game what no other emcee does: the total package. As gifted a freestyler as he is a writer, Ohene can as easily please a crowd with an 'off the dome' battle rhyme as he can with a number from his repartee. His music reaches all. Already a phenomenon in Ghana, The Begotten Son of Rhyme has returned to the United States to claim his rightful spot among hip-hop's elite. The response was immediate. Critics, fans, and fellow artists all stand in awe of his lyrical prowess. So respected for this gift, he now teaches a course at Temple University entitled The Art of Rap: How to Emcee.
Rap Emcee G: A Hip-Hop Revolutionist
Combing complex lyrics with a creative approach, rap artist G busts out on heavy drum laden produced tracks. Laying rhymes all over the US, the undeniable style and slur is a gift from his hometown of New Orleans. But the style and the slur aren't the only thing this lyricist with childlike looks but adult rhymes plans on giving the culture of Hip-hop. "Most emcees only aspire to perfect styles already out there. I want to be known for creatin' new styles. The worse thing to me is for a critic to say I sound like someone else."

Hip-Hop MC Random More Than A Conscious Rap MC
Call Random a producer, an engineer, an emcee, but just don't do it in that order. As he stated in a freestyle in 2002, 'Don't get it twisted, I been rappin' way before the beats/ CD burner, 4-track, put my music on the streets." He says "No matter how much fun it is to produce, my first love will always be emceeing." His style can only be described as a strange hybrid of KRS's thought process, Nas' vivid imagery, Redman's sense of humor, and Big Daddy Kane's venomous flow. You never really know what to expect from Random in terms of concepts, beats or lyrics. I guess that's how he got his name.

But when making noise is truly necessary, I can make a comment out of nowhere and have the crowd falling out laughing or thinking seriously about something," Storm explains.
